Government Railway Police, Howrah is performing a myriad task for providing general policing services across its jurisdiction to ensure smooth railway operations in co-operation with all other stakeholders of Railway and District Police / District Administration. The prime roles of the Howrah GRP are to maintain law & order all the time, to prevent & detect crime and to ensure safety & security of the passengers across railway jurisdiction. The jurisdiction of Howrah GRP district extends to entire 1221.12 Railway Kilometre, which covers Howrah- Asansol, Howrah- Azimganj via Kalna/ Katwa towards North Bengal, Howrah-Rampurhat routes. The railway tracks also pass through the 05-Revenue District, (Howrah, Hooghly Rural, Purba Burdwan, Paschim Burdwan, Birbhum) 04-Commissionerates (Howrah, Asansol-Durgapur, Chandannagar, Barrackpore) and 03-Police District (Jangipur PD, Murshidabad PD, Krishnanagar PD) . The Howrah GRP district jurisdiction falls under mainly Howrah & Asansol railway division and parts of Sealdah, Malda & Adra railway division. This district has 13 GRPS, 10 RPICs and has to cover 234 Railway Stations. During the normal time over 1000 (One thousand) trains originate/pass through or terminate and on an average per day over a million of passengers/commuters travel across this GRP district jurisdiction. Among all the Railway Stations of Howrah GRP, Howrah Railway Station is the largest and busiest Railway Station and it is a junction of four major rail routes connected with Howrah-Delhi, Howrah-Mumbai, Howrah-Chennai and Howrah-Guwahati. Moreover, East-West Metro Corridor, India's first underwater (Riverine) service has started from Howrah Railway Station. Howrah GRP district is committed towards each and every citizen for safety and security throughout its jurisdiction.
